Farm News
The garlic is planted. Last Saturday’s crew finished the task. It is a significant planting as it marks the beginning of the 2009 season!

It’s also a nice change of pace from the heavy harvesting that autumn brings. We’ve been plugging away at the harvest of fall vegetables. All will need to be harvested before the night temperatures dip too much lower. A little frost will sweeten the fall vegetables, a hard freeze will ruin them. Thankfully the weather has remained remarkably pleasant and the rutabagas are now harvested leaving just the beets, celeriac and carrots to finish up. Brussels sprouts and kale, two other fall veggies, are picked either the day of delivery or the day before depending on weather and helpers.
Shorter days and cooler temperatures have certainly brought a change of pace here at home. We’ve had a few fires in the wood stove and thoughts of cutting wood, knitting and good books to read are coming to the fore.

It won’t be long and we’ll be making plans for the 2009 season. Very soon you’ll receive a survey in your e-mail box if we have an e-mail address or in your postal box if we don’t. Please take a few minutes, fill it out and return it. We really do read them, try new things and make changes (or not) based on what we hear from you.
