Farm News
We just got in from planting the bulk of next year’s garlic! With some luck we’ll finish it off (or come close anyway) tomorrow with our harvest/delivery crew. It is a good feeling to have that project well on its way to completion. The fall weather can sometimes be tricky for garlic planting. If we have an extended rainy period, it can take a long time for the soil to dry out with the short, cool days of fall. The forecast has us heading into a rainy period so we will be very glad to have the garlic in.
We’ve had a little help over the past two weeks with a couple of “Willing Workers On Organic Farms,” otherwise known as “Woofers” who have been working on a neighboring CSA, North Creek Community Farm. Brenda from Illinois joined us for a couple of days last week and Dylan spent a couple of days here this week. Both of them brought an amazing amount of experience with them, Brenda having worked on a number of farms around Illinois and Dylan having traveled across the country working in Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Wisconsin and now on to Florida. We enjoyed having both of them here and particularly loved hearing their stories and insights from having worked other places.
The valley has been absolute beautiful this week. The maples (at their peak now) joined by the birch and poplar are putting on quite a show. Their beauty is a very welcome distraction from both the economy and the election.
