Farm News
It’s been a week of squash harvesting here on the farm. With the help of Dylan and Ingrid, willing workers from North Creek Community Farm, the squash harvest is complete! And, most importantly, it looks to be a good one. You’ve already received some of the Honey Bear squash, a new variety for us this year. We’re sending Sunshines this week. Aren’t they beautiful? They’ve become one of my favorites, baked in the oven and served with a little butter and kosher salt and sage if we have some.

The delicatas, a favorite of many for their amazing sweetness, look good as do the butternut squash which is so nice for making soups and cutting up for roasting.
We also dug some of the French Fingerling potatoes this week. They are such a nice fingerling potato. They actually have some size to them, their interior is beautiful – yellow with a ring of pink – and their waxy texture makes them quite delicious. We like them roasted or boiled a little and then sautéed in butter. Nothing better!

My dad, along with our neighbors Kris and Jay (who are learning the art of beekeeping) harvested their honey this week. Leaving enough honey for the bees to get through the winter, they removed the “extra”, cut off the wax toppings and ran the honey filled frames through a centrifuge. After straining they have some beautiful golden honey. Not too much, given the bear visits over the summer, but enough for my dad to keep honey on his toast!

Our nephew was married last weekend, Maggie’s birthday is this weekend and our Fall Work day is just around the corner. Life is full!
