We’ve got some broccoli coming right along and also another batch of beets that we’ll probably send next week. We’ll keep the tomatoes and peppers coming as long as summer cooperates!

Tuesdays in Sept/Oct – BIG OOPS!
With a click of the mouse, I removed all of the Tuesday delivery people from our web site calendar! If you signed up for a Tuesday in September or October, please contact us right away so we can put those pieces back together. If you haven’t yet signed up for your day yet, please do so by contacting Michele Gersich at 612-378-0380 or mgersich@att.net.

Spring Hill Bags
Please return your Spring Hill bag to your pick-up site each week. You can also return rubber bands and cherry tomato containers if they’re in good shape.

Farm News
The weather has been confusing all season long and that continues to be the case. We’re still lacking heat and now the rains that we had wished for in May and June are coming along on an almost daily basis. It makes things a little tricky out there. This moist weather brings mold in the beans and can take away from the intense sweetness you’d like in a melon. We’ve been keeping an eye out for blight in the potatoes and just mowed them down on Wednesday to prevent any transfer of blight from plant to potato. We really can’t complain though. We need the moisture in the soil and despite everything, the vegetables are doing quite well this year. The warmer temperatures we had a couple of weeks ago pushed the winter squash along, the rain is bringing some size to the leeks and our hoop houses are providing us with tomatoes and peppers.

Since we rely on students for help in the field, we’re starting to see a shift there. Amber leaves for college this weekend and Matt will do the same this coming week. The rest of the crew will work through this coming Friday and then school will start on September 1st. It’s a little scary for Mike and me. We’ve relied heavily on this group. They’ve done a great job and we’ll miss their help and also the animated conversations in the field.

Once again, we snuck away for a day to the south shore of Lake Superior – this time with David and Maggie. We gave kayaking a try. It was cool and a bit damp but we were given wet suits and instruction. It was a blast!
