In your bag
Swiss chard, Beets
Carrots, New Potatoes

Garlic*, Red Tropea Onions,
Cilantro
Mixed herb bunch (basil, parsley)
*The garlic is fresh and should be stored in your refrigerator just as you would a fresh onion.

Coming soon
The first green beans may in the bag next week. They’ve been delayed with the cool weather and also the deer that seem to prefer bean blossoms to most everything else in the garden – except beet tops which they also enjoy. We’ll have more fresh onions, garlic & beets.

Farm News
We had a couple of nice rains this week. Three quarters of an inch came on Tuesday morning and another three quarters of an inch on Wednesday afternoon. Boy is that nice! We can give the irrigation pump a rest and the I(irrigation)-Team can take a break from moving pipe around the farm.

How about the peas this week?! We haven’t grown this sugar snap variety for several years opting for the shorter/earlier Sugar Anns. Your surveys came back loud and clear for more peas which is why we went back to this trellised variety. They’re more work but better flavor and very prolific (at least this year). We’re very pleased to send each share a goodly amount. Enjoy!

Your surveys also indicated more greens. We’ve been working with our unheated greenhouses (hoop houses) to produce more greens. Some of the kale has come from the hoop houses as does this week’s chard and down the road some lettuce, more chard and more Lacinato kale. Hopefully we’re not overwhelming you with greens. It would be nice to hear what you’re thinking of more greens – a quick e-mail perhaps?

It’s been garlic week on the farm. We began with last Saturday’s crew and have worked throughout the week to harvest this year’s garlic. Most of it is now out of the field and curing in the greenhouse. We are always particularly pleased when the garlic crop does well which seems to be the case this year. The big flavorful cloves are so nice to cook with, lovely to roast and you know, we haven’t had any vampires around for years!
